Sno. co. wild learners co-OP
Connecting Families to Nature
Our Story
Sno. Co. Wild learners began as an idea in October 2023. Families needed a place to connect with one another and nature in an environment conducive to all ages learning. This need began a small Facebook group that is still operating on a larger scale, Snohomish County Nature Play and Learn. The first meet up brought out about 15 families who were eager to connect. By meet up three, over 40 families were attending. The need for a play-based, family style, outdoor learning opportunity was proven by the numbers.
Sno. Co. Wild Learners completed it’s first year during the 2023-2024 school year. As we continue into the second year, the group is excited to see the hearts and confidence in our children grow.

The last Friday of every month, the group will host a children’s book club. Field trips, hiking, and playground meet ups will be offered throughout the year and will be hosted by our Facebook group, Snohomish County Nature Play and Learn.

Play Based Learning
100% Outdoors
We believe children of all ages learn better together, rather than being separated by age. Because of this, we allow children of all ages into our co-op to encourage both learning and teaching from our children. We believe the best teacher is the child him/herself, and we encourage group collaboration to allow for this dynamic. A child who teaches not only gains confidence, but the material is reinforced by this behavior. The child who is taught by another gains a different perspective that may be easier to understand than if it was presented by an adult. We provide an overall subject each day with varying degrees of difficulty to challenge each age group.
We believe children learn by doing. Our children come from many different education backgrounds whether it be a traditional school, unschool, or alternative schooling such as homeschooling or hybrid schooling. Regardless of where a child is receiving additional schooling, we want the time spent in our co-op to be hands on, engaging with the outdoor environment we are in, and engaging with their peers. We provide paperwork at the co-op only to enhance the learning activities presented to the child. All other activities presented to the child require a hands on approach to engage both fine and gross motor skills. Our activities also encourage children to engage with the environment- collect nature treasures for an art project, go on a mission out in the forest to build on foundational material, explore different ecosystems and habitats, explore the animals and insects in our area, ect. We want to encourage our children to see nature as not only their playground, but their classroom as well.
We believe every child thrives out in nature. The opportunities presented in our natural environment help to build a confident, well round child. We believe that the time spent outdoors gives opportunity for connection, self-awareness, and respect. We want to use our time together to lay the foundation for every child’s love for the outdoors and for learning. We want to bring awareness to the possibilities of fun that come from being outdoors-climbing trees, jumping in puddles, running barefoot, and wandering hand in hand with friends. We want to bring forth imagination that can be applied to nature treasures found along our journey and allow them to see the endless possibilities these nature treasures can be used for. We want to give our children the opportunity to work and collaborate within a group setting and gain the confidence that comes with being part of a group. We want to provide opportunities to investigate through various missions, and engineer solutions to problems presented to the child.
